Monday 5th July Adriano Adewale is playing a very special concert with virtuoso pianist Joanna MacGregor and the Britten Sinfonia. The programme, which will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Thursday 8th July at 7pm, includes repertoire ranging from J.S.Bach, Villa-Lobos and Gismonti to original compositions by Adriano Adewale. Dancing Argentine Tango to music from Baroque to Jazz, Entangled incorporates influences from Hollywood musicals, contemporary dance and physical dance theatre. Ranging from the fun and flirtatious to the melancholy and introspective, this duet presents a down to earth interpretation of a world famous dance. Essex Music Agency
Alonside SEGUE's ongoing projects, from May 2010 SEGUE's Fiona Mason takes on the role of Director of the Essex Music Agency. The EMA aims to create a coherent, vibrant, accessible and sustainable music infrastructure within Essex and is a partnership between Essex County Council's Arts Development team and Essex Music Services, Orchestras Live, Colchester Institute, Youth Music, local authority arts officers and other key county and regional partners. Produced by SEGUE and Artson5Brazilian master percussionist Adriano Adewale performs a virtuoso work of music, theatre and dance, before special guest, Nobel Prize winning poet Derek Walcott. Evoking the enormity of traditional landscapes and communities from Africa to South America this promises to be a mesmerizing and thought-provoking performance, guaranteed to awaken the senses.
A discussion will follow the performance. Adriano will talk about the personal experiences that inspired him to make this fascinating performance piece.

FESTIVAL BRASILEIRO 21-23 May 2010
University of Essex Arts on 5, SEGUE and UECLAA (University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art) are working in partnership to produce a Brazilian arts and cultural festival curated by University of Essex Artist in Residence and SEGUE Associate Artist Adriano Adewale. A year in planning, the festival, which takes place in May is the culmination of Adriano's year in residence at the University. Kate Flatt Projects: Soul Play
SEGUE's Associate Artist Kate Flatt is currently working at Watford Palace Theatre on her moving dance-theatre production Soul Play. Originally produced in 2008 Kate secured funding from the Rayne Foundation and Arts Council England East to re-present the work alongside workshops and discussion events dealing with the issued raised by the production. Performances will take place in Watford, Colchester and London during March 2010.

A year of music, theatre and education from SEGUE
The new season of Jazz at the Lakeside kicks off on January 30th with Polar Bear paying a welcome return visit to the University of Essex Lakeside Theatre, playing material from their much awaited new album Peeper. The season includes Nathan Riki Thomson's world jazz ensemble, oustanding vocalist Anita Wardell, Brazilian vibes from Adriano Adewale and guests and some virtuoso Sax from Denys Baptiste's to close the season on March 6th. Meanwhile Associate Artist Adriano Adewale will be working on a project with Young Essex Jazz and the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra which culminates in a performance in May in a Brazilian Cultural Festival set to take place at the University of Essex. More details will follow. Songs from a Hotel Bedroom, a new musical theatre production SEGUE is producing in collaboration with Kate Flatt will open at Watford Palace Theatre in October 2010.The show is being co-produced by Watford Palace Theatre and the New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich and co-commissioned by ROH2 the Royal Opera House.

SEGUE Awarded Arts Council Funds for New Production
Re-launch of the Lakeside Theatre and Launch of Adriano Adewale's Residency
SEGUE has been awarded a substantial grant from Arts Council England East to produce a new work of music theatre in partnership with Associate Artist Kate Flatt. Songs from a Hotel Bedroom, which had its pilot showing at the New Wolsey Studio on May 27th 2009 will go into full production for Autumn 2010. This is a piece of choreographic music theatre which tells a story of a love affair between a cabaret singer and a writer and uses the bitter sweet love songs from the American repertoire of Kurt Weill.
On November 16th the University of Essex held a special event to celebrate the re-opening of the Lakeside Theatre after an ambitious refurbishment programme carried out between July and November. The event also launched Adriano Adewale's tenure as 2009-2010 Artist in Residence and was marked by a performance in the theatre by the Adriano Adewale Group featuring special guest cellist Jenny Adejayan. The residency will involve performances and special projects throughout the year and details will be posted here early 2010.
